Lets start from the beginning. Third or fourth grade. I was a tall little girl, with long hair and glasses that made me look weird. Missing baby teeth and clumsy. My mom enrolled me in Cotillion, a Southern tradition of sending their kids to a class to learn manners and ballroom dancing, even though we we're from South Florida, the least southern area in the South. There always was more girls than boys, all of them shorter than me but one or two of them. It was fun though, and there was always good cookies. I let my toes touch the surface of the cool salt water that was lapping the supports of the old dock. I looked out at the choppy water as the sun clambered over the horizon. My hands were wrapped around the edge of the wooden dock, trying to avoid splinters. I heard a creak as someone stepped onto the dock.
